How to import customers from a spreadsheet into Cortox

How to bring an existing customer or product list into Cortox from a CSV or Excel file, what the preview shows, and what to check before you import.

If your customers or products already live in a spreadsheet, you do not need to retype them. Cortox can read a CSV or Excel file, work out what it contains, and show you a preview before anything is saved.

What kind of file can you import?

Cortox accepts CSV (.csv) and Excel (.xlsx) files, up to 10 MB and 50,000 rows. The file can hold either customers or products, and Cortox works out which one it is from the contents rather than asking you to pick.

How do you import a file?

Use the attach button in the chat box and choose your file. Cortox reads the file, decides whether it lists customers or products, and matches your columns to its own fields. Your headings do not have to follow a template, so differently named columns, such as "Company Name" in one file and "Organization" in another, can still end up in the right place.

Nothing is saved yet. A preview appears with the number of rows ready to import, a list of what will be added, and a note if any rows could not be read. From there you can import, or cancel without any change to your data. After you confirm, Cortox tells you how many customers or products were imported from your file.

What if the file is bigger than your plan allows?

Plans have limits on how many customers and products you can store. If the file has more rows than your plan has room for, the preview says so and lets you add only the first rows that fit, upgrade your plan, or cancel.

File import itself is part of the higher-tier plans: it requires the Professional plan or above, and on other plans Cortox shows an upgrade prompt instead. The pricing section on the home page lists the current plans.

How should you prepare the spreadsheet?

A few habits make the preview cleaner: keep one customer or product per row, put clear headings in the first row, remove empty rows and keep customers and products in separate files. If the preview reports rows that could not be read, fix those in the spreadsheet and import again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import both customers and products?

Yes. Cortox can import a customer list or a product list from a CSV or Excel file and works out which one the file contains.

Do my column names have to match a template?

No. Cortox matches the columns in your file to its own fields automatically, so you do not need to rename headings first.

Is anything saved before I confirm?

No. The preview appears first, and nothing is added to your account until you confirm the import. You can cancel at any point.

What happens to rows Cortox cannot read?

The preview tells you how many rows could not be read. They are left out of the import, so you can correct them in the spreadsheet and import them again.

Which file types and sizes are supported?

CSV and Excel (.xlsx) files, up to 10 MB and 50,000 rows.
